How Windows are Like a Suit and Tie
Do you remember being 16 years old? At the time, some men owned their own suits, but many men were stuck with the infamous solution: borrowing a suit from dad. For most men, this meant that the suit was ill-fitting. Whether a suit is too big or too small, it can make a horrible first impression when you’re trying to look sharp.
As a professional with a career that’s already gotten started, you probably don’t need to be told why a first impression is important, so we won’t waste your time doing that. Instead, we want to talk about what we know best–windows.
A building with dirty windows, especially a storefront or corporate office, bears a lot of resemblance to a teenager wearing his dad’s suit. When a potential client or shopper enters and sees dirty windows all around, it conveys to them that your business is sloppy and disorganized. Unless you have an eye for windows in the way we do, most customers probably think this subconsciously. They might not be thinking about all of the dirt and grime on your windows, and they might not even connect the idea of dirty windows with disorderliness, but most likely, they will feel that your presentation is lacking.
If you were buying expensive clothes, would you rather walk into a storefront with dirty windows and a dusty floor, or would you prefer to purchase your clothes from a shop with a crisp, clean appearance?
For most of us, the answer is obvious. It’s not worth it to lose customers over such a silly thing as dirty windows.
